Anti-Aging Super Hero: Resveratrol

Recent research has shown that resveratrol possesses potential anti-aging and life-enhancing benefits, which include protecting the heart and improving the circulatory system. The fact that the French suffer less from cardiovascular diseases is attributed to their high consumption of red wine which contains resveratrol. A daily glass of red wine could suppress breast cancer, according to a study by the American Association for Cancer Research.

Researchers attribute Resveratrol’s anti-aging benefits to its ability to activate certain longevity genes in the body known as sirtuins. These longevity genes help reduce cell degeneration and enhance the cells' ability to repair themselves. Resveratrol is found in the skins of red wine, grapes, seeds, peanuts, and berries.

Basically, resveratrol slows down cellular degeneration, decreases cell death, controls growth of unnatural cells, and provides the cells with more energy to restore themselves. All these attributes are particularly important longevity-enhancers. Resveratrol is a potent antioxidant and inflammation fighter and is fast becoming one of the top anti-aging bullets. Research on animals suggest that using high amounts of resveratrol may reduce cell death in the heart and brain, and thus may prolong life.

By attacking aging at its roots through making the cells more stable and offering a host of health benefits that the elderly seek, resveratrol is fast turning out to be an elixir of eternal youth.

Resveratrol, a compound found in grapes, red wine, berries, pomegranates, peanuts and seeds, may protect the heart and retards aging, according to a new study conducted at the University of Wisconsin. Tests in mice showed that resveratrol simulates the side effects of caloric restriction diets. This university study supports earlier studies, showing that taking moderate doses of resveratrol in middle age provides many of the benefits of the calorie-reduced diet.
